Recycling for Businesses
In order to recycle within your business, Veolia suggests considering the following;
Assess how much waste is generated from your office/business?
- Carry out a waste assesment for your business- this means determining the types of waste that are produced i.e. paper, plastics and metals.
- Assess the amount of waste that is generated and what part of your operations produces the majority of this waste.
Veolia can carry out a waste assessment for your business.
What materials do you and your business want to recycle?
In order to develop a recycling system, you should identify what waste materials you wish to recycle and what you are capable of implementing.
How can you implement a recycling system in your workplace?
Creating a recycling system in your office can be easy; Veolia Environmental Services has helped many businesses to create a workable and efficient recycling system. Once you have determined what to recycle, the logistics of collection systems need to be considered.
- The use of specific bins for selected waste streams is a great point at which to start. Veolia can provide these bins, and work with you to determine how often the collection of these recyclables is necessary.
- It is also important to educate your staff on what materials are to be accepted for recycling. The use of signage and other educational aids for staff members will ensure that the recyclable systems set up are adhered to.

A guide to workplace recycling
Veolia Environmental Services recently launched a new program entitled “Working towards a better environment – workplace recycling and resource recovery program” . The program will be aimed at large scale corporations who want to be at the forefront of developing innovative ways to minimise waste and promote resource recovery and recycling.
The recycling program was developed by Veolia to encourage Australian businesses to take stewardship of the waste produced within their organisations and minimise its negative environmental impacts. When considering that over 23 million tonnes of waste is sent to landfills each year within Australia, the impetus for change and implementation of sustainable business practices must come from our leading corporations.
Veolia’s unique recycling program will be aided by the provision of applicable bins and receptacles for waste streams such as Paper &Cardboard, General Waste, Untreated Timber, Bottles and Cans and Metal. The program is also supported by relevant signage, information collateral as well as staff education initiatives.
