Veolia wins major hospital contract.
Veolia Environmental Services was recently named as the preferred Waste Management supplier for the construction of the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Victoria. The project is set to be one of the largest construction projects across the Australian health sector.
Bovis Lend Lease will be responsible for the project management, design and construction of the Hospital, giving them an ideal opportunity to showcase their integrated design and delivery capabilities.
The new Hospital will be in the same precinct as the existing one and will be Australia’s first five-star green hospital, with 45 per cent reduction in Greenhouse gas emissions and 20 per cent reduction in water demand. It will make the most state-of-the-art environmentally and friendly Children’s Hospital, not just in Australia, but anywhere in the world.
Stage 1 of the redevelopment; the construction of most of the new Hospital, is already underway with completion set for 2012. Stage 2 will commence in 2012 and includes the demolition of the existing buildings excluding the current front entry and the tall research building which will remain the tallest building on site.
Veolia is currently providing Bulk, Frontlift & Rearlift services to the site and have assisted Bovis Lend Lease with providing containers without any Veolia branding. It is a Government Requirement that all contractors assigned to the redevelopment are not permitted to promote their business through signage or via any other means; as such children’s names are to be used instead.
Veolia is looking forward to working with Bovis Lend Lease, who is VES’ largest construction client in Victoria, on what is sure to be a challenging yet rewarding project for the C & D teams.
